Lucky One was written in a bedbug infested apartment connected to a barroom in Amarillo, Texas near the end of a solo voyage out West. This song is an account of myself pleading to the road to remain safe and for my path ahead to be clear. Days turned into nights and fantasies turned to nightmares. Recorded with a cell phone and a little help from a radio broadcast flash flood recording, this tale serves as a reminder to a time I now shudder to think about.

I only have one wish
It’s to fill this fucking ditch
It’s taken lives of those I’ve known and those I don’t
I only have one prayer
It’s that the ditch will not be there
When I come back home to castle bishop hills
I surrender to the road
Construction crews and capitols
And the taxes never fill that little hole
And the only I thing I ask
Is that this ditch will get a patch
So those can pass through in safety not in fear

I beat a bus to the stop
I beat my head against the wall
I’m living in this apartment in the bar
So I won’t be moving far
When the push it comes to fall
Into bed only an instant from the door
The locals live so very loud
The neighbors ask to turn me down
Though my TV set has passed so long ago

So if you’ve been closing down
On the cheaper side of down
Do your job
Close the cabinets with care
Because I’m drying hard to think
The coffee cold and I don’t drink
But I did last night and I might start again
So if you’re waiting on a sign
it happened yesterday it’s fine
You might get one more shot cause you’re a lucky one
